Carlin’s guest driver Jazeman Jaafar emerged victorious in the first race of the British F3 round at Brands Hatch, having started from pole and leading every lap on the way to the checkered flag.
Despite the impressive lights-to-flag win, Jaafar, who has three years of British F3 behind him, didn’t have it too easy, as he remained under constant pressure from teammate Jordan King for the entirety of the race.
King was forced to settle for second, closely following Jaafar lap after lap, yet not being able to find an opportunity for an overtaking move. In third, Double R’s Antonio Giovinazzi had a lonely if impressive run to take his fourth podium in the championship.
Carlin drivers Nicholas Latifi and Jann Mardenborough completed the top five. In sixth, championship leader Will Buller was forced to recover after a drive through for a false start, with the Brit spending a good chunk of his race behind teammate Felipe Guimaraes, before passing him into turn one on the penultimate lap. Tatiana Calderon rounded out the top eight, securing reverse-grid pole for race two.
In the National Class, Sun Zheng enjoyed a relatively calm race as his main opponent, Ed Jones, found himself out of contention early on due to technical issues.
