Fortec man Felipe Guimaraes has taken the first win of his 2013 British F3 campaign in the reverse-grid race at Brands Hatch.
The Brazilian started the race on front row, behind polesitter Tatiana Calderon, but neither of them kept the lead on lap one as Will Buller was quickest from third on the grid. Again, just like in race one, his launch was a bit too quick, landing him a drive through penalty that eliminated the championship leader from victory contention.
As such, Guimaraes inherited first, leading ahead of Carlin’s Jann Mardenborough and Double R’s Antonio Giovinazzi. Under pressure from the Italian, Mardenborough ended up making a mistake and dropping into fifth, which promoted Giovinazzi into second and race one winner Jazeman Jaafar into third.
The top three was unchanged for the rest of the race, as Guimaraes cruised to victory ahead of Giovinazzi and Jaafar. Jordan King finished in fourth, while a recovering Buller crossed the line in fifth, but his efforts were for naught as he first received an added five seconds for track limits and then a much harsher 30 seconds, demoting him to ninth overall. Mardenborough, therefore, was classified in fifth, while his teammate Nicholas Latifi also ended up punished for track limits issues – again, with an overall 35-second drop which saw him take tenth.
Sean Gelael took seventh ahead of teammate Calderon, while Ed Jones secured the National Class win with ninth place.
