Spanish team AV Formula have announced they will be participating in Formula Renault 2.0 NEC in 2013, instead of the previously announced Alps entry, fielding the earlier-signed Victor Sendin, Fran Rueda and a yet to be announced third driver.
Both Sendin and Rueda made their debuts in single-seater racing in 2012, racing in the French F4 championship, where Frenchman Sendin scored two early wins on his way to fifth in the final standings, while Spaniard Rueda finished the season in 13th.
“I am extremely happy to race for the team run by Adrian Valles in 2013,” said Sendin. “In late 2012, I tested with the team for two days and grew accustomed to the skilled technical team and great working environment. I am confident that we’ll achieve great results together. I’ll be aiming to score the maximum amount of podiums and be in the fight for the title this year.”
Rueda echoed his words, stating: “I am very happy to run for AV Formula in 2013 and I’m sure we’ll do a good job together. I really wanted to start in the championship this year and get acquanted with the tracks, and I hope I can adapt quickly. After the tests I took part in at the end of last year, I saw the massive progress that we achieved together and I am sure we can aim for great results. I would like to express my gratitude to all the people who are helping me this year.”
Finally, Adrian Valles shared some background on the reasons for the championship change: “For 2013, we’ve decided to switch to the Northern European Championship as we think it’s more competitive and more similar to the Eurocup category that we want to run in next year. Furthermore, most of the circuits raced on in the NEC series are involved with Formula One.”
“Both of our drivers come from French F4 and, after running them in testing, we are confident that they are capable of much more than they achieved in 2012,” added Valles. “With each tests, both have evolved and progressed, and all of us are very motivated to start the new season.”
“We’re working very closely with a potential third driver who we hope to announce soon.”
